Abstract

Lyme disease caused by the Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb or B. burgdorferi) is the most common vector-borne, multi-systemic disease in the USA. Although most Lyme disease patients can be cured with a course of the first line of antibiotic treatment, some patients are intolerant to currently available antibiotics, necessitating the development of more effective therapeutics. We previously found several drugs, including disulfiram, that exhibited effective activity against B. burgdorferi. In the current study, we evaluated the potential of repurposing the FDA-approved drug, disulfiram for its borreliacidal activity.
 
  • Our results indicate disulfiram has excellent borreliacidal activity against both the log and stationary phase B. burgdorferi sensu stricto B31 MI. Treatment of mice with disulfiram eliminated the B. burgdorferi sensu stricto B31 MI completely from the hearts and urinary bladder by day 28 post infection.
  • Moreover, disulfiram-treated mice showed reduced expressions of inflammatory markers, and thus they were protected from histopathology and cardiac organ damage.
  • Furthermore, disulfiram-treated mice showed significantly lower amounts of total antibody titers (IgM and IgG) at day 21 and total IgG2b at day 28 post infection.
  • FACS analysis of lymph nodes revealed a decrease in the percentage of CD19+ B cells and an increase in total percentage of CD3+ T cells, CD3+ CD4+ T helpers, and naive and effector memory cells in disulfiram-treated mice.

Together, our findings suggest that disulfiram has the potential to be repurposed as an effective antibiotic for treating Lyme disease. View Full-Text

New in vitro study on dapsone (diaminodiphenyl sulfone), and dapsone combination therapy (DDS CT) was just published by Dr. Richard Horowitz et al. and provides hope of effective treatment for patients with persistent Lyme disease.

The study is suggestive that dapsone combination therapy may well characterize both a novel and successful option to treat Borrelia burgdorferi persister cells in the form of biofilm.  There are several hypotheses causing great controversy regarding the persistent symptoms that greater than 10-20% of patients are experiencing after infection with B. burgdorferi. The study evaluated the effectiveness of dapsone against B. burdorferi biofilm forms of the bacteria by testing in individual as well as in combination therapy with several drugs including cefuroxime, doxycycline, rifampin, and azithromycin in vitro.

The results were robust, showing that using dapsone alone or in various combinations with the above stated drugs significantly reduced the mass and protective glycosaminoglycan layer affecting the capability of the biofilm form of B. burdorferi. DDS CT efficacy on the B. burgdorferi biofilms was also determined by ascertaining the biofilm polysaccharide matrix content, glycosaminoglycans (GAG).

Study results showed the most efficient single use antibiotic at reducing biofilm was dapsone at both 10 µM and 50 µM concentrations,  showing 69% and 58% residual viability respectively. Used individually, other antibiotic treatments (doxycycline, cefuroxime, and azithromycin) proved to be less efficient and, in some cases, even caused an increase biofilm mass. In contrast, triple and quadruple combination antibiotic therapies showed greater efficacy.

  • The most significant finding was that dapsone used individually or in combination therapy with rifampin, and a tetracycline and/or a macrolide and/or a cephalosporin showed great promise in the treatment of persistent Lyme patients, with prior clinical studies demonstrating improvement in many of the debilitating symptoms that patients suffer including fatigue, pain, neuropathy, sleep disturbances, cognitive dysfunction, sweats and flushing.
It is urgent that randomized trials are launched to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of DDS CT as the spread of Lyme disease continues to increase on a global scale.

This is great news.  If you suffer from chronic symptoms you may want to discuss this with your doctor and consider it in your treatment arsenal.  I have heard the side-effects from Dapsone are substantial so make sure you and your doctor read up on those and ways to mitigate them.  I know Dr. Horowitz utilizes many supplements for this purpose when using Dapsone.

Now in 2020, we are watching the same thing happen all over again with the Wuhan coronavirus (covid-19) pandemic, a manufactured crisis that once again exposes global “public health” initiatives as nothing more than corporate-government fraud.

From the very start of this latest worldwide scare, the WHO has contended that there is nothing anyone can do about the Wuhan coronavirus (covid-19) other than to take Remdesivir, an antiviral drug manufactured by Gilead Pharmaceuticals, and simply wait for a future vaccine – in self-isolation with your mask on, of course. The WHO has further denigrated hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) as dangerous and useless, citing a bogus study that was authored by a porn star and sci-fi writer under the direction of a questionable U.S. healthcare analytics company.

Also in on the ruse are other key deep state players such as the infamous Anthony Fauci, who 15 years after publicly stating that HCQ is effective against coronaviruses is suddenly now opposed to the drug’s use. As it turns out, Fauci has financial ties to new drugs that are being pushed through the pipeline as alleged remedies for the Wuhan coronavirus (covid-19), which explains his anomalous opposition to HCQ, which he once promoted.

Dr. Didier Raoult of France says he has actually received death threats simply for announcing that HCQ combined with the antibiotic drug azithromycin successfully cured 80 of his own patients.

“By administering hydroxychloroquine combined with azithromycin, we were able to observe an improvement in all cases, except in one patient who arrived with an advanced form, who was over the age of 86,” Dr. Raoult is quoted as saying, noting that HCQ-plus-azithromycin had a 91 percent success rate with zero side effects when used in more than 1,000 patients.

Dr. Raoult published these and other findings in an online journal, only to be threatened with death for daring to spill the beans. And according to Great Game India, this death threat came from a top financial recipient of none other than Gilead Pharmaceuticals, which apparently wants to maintain a corner on the available oral drug options for the Wuhan coronavirus (covid-19).

“Professor Raoult testified that, shortly after he started to talk about HCQ as a treatment, in March, he received anonymous death threats,” reports indicate. “He filed a complaint with the police, and an enquiry was opened by the French judiciary.”

“The medical doctor behind the threats was found and happens to be from a Nantes university hospital. It happened to be the person who received the most money from Gilead over the past 6 years.”

Igor Giorgadze, a former minister for state security in Georgia, is on record as claiming that the illegal tests were conducted by The Richard Lugar Center for Public Health Research near the nation’s capital of Tbilisi. More than 100,000 pages of classified information shows that Gilead was involved in conducting military research, biological weapons research, and other clinical experiments there that resulted in the deaths of Georgian citizens.

Equally disturbing are Gilead’s ties to the Pentagon, as the company has been accused of bombing a competitor’s manufacturing facility with the deep state entity’s approval, all under the guise of “fighting Al-Qaeda.”

As for Remdesivir, which currently maintains “orphan drug” status, it remains to be seen where the drug ends up in the world and at what cost – or as Great Game India puts it, we will have to see “what countries does Gilead choose to donate to and beyond the donations, whether Gilead prices Remdesivir reasonably, particularly in developed countries.”

Please keep this all in mind when you read science journals and/or listen to the news.  These conflicts of interest run deep and are prolific, and don’t kid yourself – affect what tests & drugs are chosen and what drugs aren’t chosen to treat people.  

Lyme/MSIDS patients often have to learn the hard way that tests and treatments are dictated by a ‘higher power’ that has a strangle-hold on most doctors. These ‘authorities’ entrusted with public health vilify any tests or treatments that they don’t have patents on and then bully doctors into submission by a constant threat of being persecuted by state medical boards for not obeying their directives.  Just know that this same thing is playing out for other diseases – and right now in front of our eyes with COVID.

It’s unfathomable that even one human would choose profit over patients, but that in fact is what is happening at every level of medicine and research.
No one cares about your health more than you do. If you can’t get help in one place, go to another until you get help.  Be persistent, be tenacious in finding that help.  You are worth it.
