Efficacy of Short-Term High Dose Pulsed Dapsone Combination Therapy in the Treatment of Chronic Lyme Disease/Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome (PTLDS) and Associated Co-infections: A Report of Three Cases and Literature Review

Abstract

Lyme disease and associated co-infections are increasing worldwide and approximately 20% of individuals develop chronic Lyme disease (CLD)/Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome (PTLDS) despite early antibiotics.
A 7–8-week protocol of double dose dapsone combination therapy (DDDCT) for CLD/PTLDS results in symptom remission in approximately 50% of patients for one year or longer, with published culture studies indicating higher doses of dapsone demonstrate efficacy against resistant biofilm forms of Borrelia burgdorferi. The purpose of this study was therefore to evaluate higher doses of dapsone in the treatment of resistant CLD/PTLDS and associated co-infections. Twenty-five patients with a history of Lyme and associated co-infections, most of whom had ongoing symptoms despite several courses of DDDCT, took one or more courses of high dose pulsed dapsone combination therapy (200 mg dapsone X 3-4 days and/or 200 mg BID x 4 days), depending on persistent symptoms.
The majority of patients noticed sustained improvement in 8 major Lyme symptoms, including:
  • fatigue
  • pain
  • headaches
  • neuropathy
  • insomnia
  • cognition
  • sweating

where dapsone dosage, not just treatment length, positively affected outcomes. High dose pulsed dapsone combination therapy may represent a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of resistant CLD/PTLDS, and should be confirmed in randomized, controlled clinical trials.

Please remember that the often touted 20% of individuals who go on to suffer symptoms despite early treatment only include those who are diagnosed and treated early and omit a much larger subset of patients like myself, my husband, and nearly every patient I work with who are diagnosed and treated later.  For more on this, please see:  https://madisonarealymesupportgroup.com/2019/02/25/medical-stalemate-what-causes-continuing-symptoms-after-lyme-treatment/

Important excerpt:

10-20% of Lyme disease patients who are promptly diagnosed and treated with an antibiotic within the first few weeks of infection, still end up with chronic disease. This is PTLDS.

30-40% of Lyme disease patients who have been infected for weeks to months before getting diagnosed, and THEN treated with an antibiotic, still end up with a chronic disease. This subgroup has no specific label but it has been referred to as “chronic Lyme disease,” or CLD.

60% of Lyme patients end up with chronic symptoms

And this, of course, doesn’t even take coinfections into consideration.

Doctors Receive Limited Training in Vaccine Science & White House Official Makes False Claim About COVID “Vaccines” & More Misinformation

“You Never Heard About the Negative Effects of a Vaccine,  Never.”

Please watch this 2 minute video with doctor after doctor expressing the limited training they received in med school on ‘vaccines.’

Viral immunologist, and vaccinologist Dr. Byram Bridle explains (at time signature 7:10) how doctors in Canada only receive approximately 5-12 (50 minute) lectures in the first year of their program which yields a total of about 15 minutes of information about vaccines, which means the average physician has only the most superficial understanding about vaccines.

Bridle is the one who broke the news that the spike protein in the COVID shots is a dangerous toxin.  He has been certified as an expert witness for scientific matters related to COVID in Canada and has also provided evidence that most people have already acquired robust immunity to the virus without “vaccination,” and that there is no scientific basis justifying the use of “vaccine” mandates to reduce the transmission of COVID. He states that the injection causes significant side-effects, which for many will be worse than the infection itself.  Please see his affidavit which explains much more.

Doctors Receive Limited Training in Vaccine Science.

Published June 17, 2022

“We are not taught what’s in those vaccines. We are just taught what the schedule is like.” – Dr Ramon Ramos

“As you know, medical doctors don’t have a lot of training in vaccines.” – Dr. Bob Zajac

“I would say no one is an expert in vaccines because no one is being taught about vaccines in schools. So, basically in ‘vaccine field’, you really have to be a self-taught expert.” – Dr. Tetyana Obukhanych, Ph.D.

“I’ve been researching problems associated with vaccines since September of 2000. I’ve put well over 20,000 hours of my own time into researching problems with vaccines. So, there wasn’t any training. There wasn’t any looking at side effects. There wasn’t any of that. So, nothing, nothing.” – Dr Sherri Tenpenny

White House Health Official Makes False Claim About COVID-19 Vaccines

By Zachary Stieber
June 20, 2022

A White House official made a false claim on June 20 about COVID-19 vaccines while encouraging parents to get their young children vaccinated.

Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House’s COVID-19 response coordinator, said that “there have not been any serious side effects of these vaccines.”

Contrary to Jha’s claim, severe allergic reactions, blood clotting, heart inflammation, and paralysis are among the serious side effects linked to the three COVID-19 vaccines that are available in the United States.

“There is a well-documented risk of myocarditis from the COVID vaccine, especially in young men and adolescent boys, and an elevated risk of clotting in young women with the Moderna vaccine,” Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, a professor of medicine at Stanford University, told The Epoch Times in an email.

Important points:

When will public health ‘officials’ be held responsible for misinformation?

Speaking of misinformation:

https://popularrationalism.substack.com/p/your-doctor-needs-to-read-this-in

Your Doctor Needs to Read This. In fact ALL Doctors Need to Read This.

I sent this letter to 100 Deans of Schools of Medicine in 2018. They failed to pass the news on to their Medical School faculty & students. They are, therefore, responsible for continued ignorance.

This is the text of a letter I sent to 100 Deans of Schools of Medicine in 2018. A few months later, Paul Offit (CHOP) then announced that perhaps we should not be so aggressive in treating fevers in infants following vaccination.

I’m posting it here in response to this condescending stream of disinformation shared with me this morning.

Dear Medical Community Leader:

I am enclosing a copy of my latest book, “The Environmental and Genetic Causes of Autism”, published six months ago by Skyhorse Press, a project for which I read over 2,000 research studies on autism. I am sending it in the hope that you might help bring about much-needed reforms in training the next generation of physicians. I hope you will take some time and look over the results and conclusions from the literature I have canvassed.

I offer you the following highlights, which do not represent by any means the entirety of the science reviewed in the book:

(1) Contrary to testimony given to Congress by Rr Adm. Schuchat of the US Centers for Disease Control, studies do indeed exist that demonstrate association between vaccines and autism. Those studies are reviewed on page 217 of “Causes”. These are not trivial studies and should no longer be ignored. (References here: https://envgencauses.com/)

(2) A growing number of studies have found an increase in the risk of autism after the MMRif Paracematol (Acetaminophen, e.g., Tylenol) is administered to ease the fever.

These include:

• Schultz ST, Klonoff-Cohen HS, Wingard DL, Akshoomoff NA, Macera CA, Ji M. 2008 Acetaminophen (paracetamol) use, measles-mumps-rubella vaccination, and autistic disorder: the results of a parent survey. Autism. 12(3):293-307. doi: 10.1177/1362361307089518.

• Bauer AZ, Kriebel D. Prenatal and perinatal analgesic exposure and autism: an ecological link. Environ Health. 12:41. doi: 10.1186/1476-069X-12-41.

• Claudia B. Avella-Garcia, Jordi Julvez, Joan Fortuny, Cristina Rebordosa, Raquel García-Esteban, Isolina Riaño Galán, Adonina Tardónf, Clara L. 2016. Rodríguez-Bernal, Carmen Iñiguez, Ainara Andiarena, Loreto Santa-Marina, Jordi Sunyer. Acetaminophen Use in Pregnancy and Neurodevelopment: Attention Function and Autism Spectrum Symptoms. International Journal of Epidemiology DOI: 10.1093/ije/dyv

• Saeedan AS et al., 2018. Effect of early natal supplementation of paracetamol on attenuation of exotoxin/endotoxin induced pyrexia and precipitation of autistic like features in albino rats. Inflammopharmacology. doi: 10.1007/s10787-017-0440-2.

In 2010, Shoffner et al., (2010) found that 71% of kids with regressive autism had an episode of fever > 101°F In 33% of these cases, the fever occurred right after vaccination – and none showed regression unless fever had occurred:

• Shoffner J, Hyams L, Langley GN, Cossette S, Mylacraine L, Dale J, Ollis L, Kuoch S, Bennett K, Aliberti A, Hyland K. 2010. Fever plus mitochondrial disease could be risk factors for autistic regression. J Child Neurol. 25(4):429-34. doi: 10.1177/0883073809342128.

These studies, and many other, tell me and many others that we clearly need to develop rapid biomarker for screening and develop a culture within medical practice that inform patients of their individual risk.

(3) There are four plausible mechanisms of vaccine-induced encephalopathy-mediated autism (VIEMA). These include (a) chronic microglial activation, (b) mitochondrial damage, (c) protein disorder, and (d) vaccine-induced autoimmunity. The lines of evidence of for each of these mechanisms are reviewed.

(4) In my book “Cures vs. Profits”, I reviewed vaccines in a chapter – and I found that the evidence that CDC misled the public, the IOM, the FDA, and Congress to be overwhelming. As one example, positive association results were fraudulently removed from the Destefano et al. (2004) study of the rates on-time vs. delayed MMR vaccination. I am enclosing a copy of statements provided by Dr. William Thompson, who was put on administrative leave after taking his concerns about presenting these results to the Institutes of Medicine to Dr. Julie Gerberding, who at the time was the Director of the CDC. After leaving CDC, Dr. Gerberding accepted a position at Merck, Inc. to head up their vaccine division.

(5) A pattern exists in the studies most commonly cited by CDC as demonstrating no effect of vaccines on autism. First, they are nearly all severely underpowered. In 2012, the Institute of Medicine rejected 17/22 studies put forward for consideration by CDC, leaving four studies (one study was published twice). We have performed power calculation on these studies and have found that these studies could not have detected a positive association between vaccines and autism if one did, in fact, exist. (This inference is non-circular as no effect size from the studies were used in the power calculations). This small handful of studies determined the IOM’s conclusion of no association. A manuscript is being prepared with these results. Second, the studies conducted by CDC nearly all initially found association, but then after over-correcting for assumed confounders, the analyses were conducted in manner that made the association insignificant. However, these studies did not report interaction terms, and suffer from other serious irregularities on objective statistical model selection. When they could not make an association go away, they simply removed the results, as in the case of Destefano et al. (2004).

Since writing “Causes”, I have also been conducting, with colleagues, research on matches between peptides found in pathogens in vaccines in search of potential molecular mimics that could explain why autistics and their mothers tend to have antibodies against brain proteins. To our surprise, we have discovered that vaccines are not routinely screened for epitopes that match human proteins. Thus, autoimmunity induced by vaccines would seem to be guaranteed for some individuals, especially from adjuvanted vaccines.

We have also been studying pediatric dosing of aluminum from vaccines on the CDC schedule. Contrary to intuition, our analysis shows that infants receive far too much aluminum from vaccines when the doses are properly studied as mcg/kg/day. We have a manuscript under review [now published] that we hope we will be able to share with you. The CFR/FDA limit of exposure of aluminum from parenteral sources is 4-5 mcg/kg/day. On Day 1, infants receiving the HepB vaccines receive 250 mcg. A 7.5 lb (3.3 kg) male infant thus receives 75.75 mcg/kg/day. Thus, the HepB vaccine is violation of Federal Regulation 21CFR201 on exposure for body weight per unit time. Our manuscript on this topic is undergoing peer review [three IPAK studies now published].

Available scientific knowledge does not point exclusively to vaccines. The book includes many studies that point to high individual risk associated with specific industrial and agricultural-sourced toxins. The Environmental Toxin Liability Sampling theory is based on the idea that a total load of toxins are less tolerable, in general, by individuals who, for inherited (rare) or de novo (more common) have a susceptibility due to errant detoxification abilities.

I point to the work of Scott Faber and his team especially on the different response of autistics to total exposures to environmental toxins (they did not study vaccines; Nature Scientific Reports 6:26185 doi:10.1038/srep26185). Thimerosal and aluminum make matters worse for these kids as they damage cells’ ability to detoxify – both disrupt proper endoplasmic reticulum functions). Thimerosal specifically inhibits ERAP1, disrupting the MHC adaptive immune protein production. This is likely why people who receive Thimerosal-containing flu vaccines end up with increased rates of other upper respiratory infections. Aluminum causes distortions of the endoplasmic reticulum – the cell’s detoxification channels (e.g., Rivzi et al., 2014). This disables cells’ ability to properly conduct the Unfolded Protein Response.

It is my sincere hope you take these messages under consideration in the training of the next generation of pediatricians, both nurses and doctors, and in your interactions with professionals in your School of Medicine and your Graduate School of Public Health. While vaccines can provide key protection against diseases, they are formulated in a manner that also disregards the effects of their excipient on individual and public health. There is a single-mindedness about vaccines that excludes risk awareness and sees the discussion of risk and safety as a threat, rather than a warning signal. The warning signal has been sounded, but, like so many other disasters, the signal has not been heeded. This need not be so.

I have ideas on how artificial immunization could be approached, and am working with public interest groups to petition the government for $1 Billion in extramural funding for Neurodevelopment Research Reform. These include, among others, safety screening programs (biomarkers) as well as encouraging technological innovations in artificial immunity that compete on the platform of safety.

Our aim is the bring immunization into the realm of personalized medicine. This effort is critically important, and I urge you to call your Congressional Representatives and NIH Program Officers to have them demand change in biomedical research priorities that looks past the many weak, underpowered, and biased correlation studies on vaccine safety and into a future where both our children’s health and their minds are protected. For details on seven major research programs that over 600 American citizens will be asking for, please contact me at jim@ipaknowledge.org. For more information on additional non-canonical perspectives, see jameslyonsweiler.com (and now PopularRationalism.com 🙂 )

I hope you will join the growing number of Americans who will no longer engage in the culture of ridicule, derision, spite, refusal of access to medical care for those who are Vaccine Risk Aware, and help us work toward a future of artificial immunization that is made much safer for all.

Sincerely,

James Lyons-Weiler, PhD

Medical Board Goes After Dr. McCullough, Senator Johnson Calls For Public Hearing

MEDICAL BOARD GOES AFTER DR. MCCULLOUGH, SEN. JOHNSON CALLS FOR PUBLIC HEARING

Del BigTree interviews Dr. McCullough on this latest development, a phenomenon Lyme literate doctors understand all too well.

Dr. Peter McCullough is under fire from the American Board of Internal Medicine (A.B.I.M.), who is threatening his medical license for “providing false and inaccurate information to patients”. Senator Ron Johnson has responded with a call for A.B.I.M. and Dr. McCullough to participate in an open hearing on Capitol Hill, and put it all on the table of public record.

Senator Johnson (WI) is one of the few politicians standing up for the “vaccine” injured, true misinformation, and now doctors who are being attacked.  He is also demanding that a DOD contractor turn over the Military’s Medical Database Records after the company failed to fully comply with a previous request seeking information about its “awareness of potential data problems” with the military’s database.  The database was recently edited after whistleblowers pointed out the high rate of COVID injection injuries. The DOD magically and suddenly discovered 5 years of “false data” only after attorney Renz came forth with shockingly dramatic increases in medical diagnoses among the military.
An earlier report linked heart inflammation specifically in a study involving the U.S. military.

I’m thankful for recent papers where scientists remind us that hypotheses are not misinformation and conjecture. True science embraces alternative hypotheses, contradictory arguments, verification, refutability, and controversy. Departing from this principle risks establishing dogmas, abandoning the essence of science, and, even worse, paving the way for conspiracy theories. Further, allowing scientists, doctors, and public health ‘authorities to have conflicts of interest also hurts real science due to bias.

Powassan Virus Found in Massachusetts Ticks

AMHERST, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A western Massachusetts tick testing company has found several ticks have tested positive for the Powassan virus, not long after a Connecticut woman in her 90s died of the tick-borne virus.

Scientists at Tick Report in Amherst are busy testing around 1,000 ticks a week, taking a close look under the microscope, and extracting DNA.

“June is going to be the worst month of the year for deer ticks, really the riskiest tick bite that you can get,” said Paul Killinger, education director at Tick Report.

I just found a juvenile black legged tick on my towel, on my deck approx. 6 feet away from trees but separated by much and rocks.
One minute, no tick, and the next minute there it was.
I believe the tick blew from the nearby trees onto the deck, even though most researchers deny ticks dropping from trees, even though birds transport ticks everywhere, including trees where they may drop off.
This TV anchor got infected this way, and a Lyme advocate told me that ticks blow into their pool from nearby trees regularly.

Powassan is NOT rare:

For the last two years, Coppe Laboratories has dedicated a significant amount of time and resources to dispelling the myth that infection with Powassan virus, a virus transmitted by tick bite, is rare. The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) reports only 100 cases of Powassan virus infection in the United States in the last 10 years. Indeed, that statistic gives the illusion that Powassan infection is rare. However, did you know that the only infections reported to CDC are those that are life-threatening, particularly cases causing severe inflammation of the brain like the case reported in LiveScienceCoppe has published three new papers in the last year that clearly show Powassan virus infection is not rare are at all, and until testing for this virus is included as part of tick-borne disease screening panels infections will continue to be underreported. Coppe’s Powassan Guide, which can be downloaded from the website, summarizes the findings from both tick and human Powassan prevalence studies, as well as defining the patient populations that would benefit most from Powassan testing.

How to Tell If a Tick Head is Still in Your Skin

Here’s How to Tell If a Tick Head Is Still in Your Skin, According to Doctors

And how to safely remove all of it ASAP.

You’re out hiking, breathing in the fresh air, taking in the sounds of nature—ticks are the furthest thing from your mind. That is until you see a brown tick butt sticking out from your skin. Maybe you immediately rip it off, only to wonder, How can I tell if a tick head is still in my skin?

If this is you, don’t panic. We‘ve got answers ahead. But first, let’s talk about ticks. We’re seeing an uptick in these tiny, insect-like parasites that feed off people and warm-blooded animals due to the growing populations of two of their favorite hosts: deer and mice. That may be good for ticks—they definitely have their place in a healthy, natural ecosystem—but that healthy place is not on your body. After all, ticks can transmit pathogens when they latch onto you. Over the past ten years, according to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, there has been a surge in Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses, many of which can cause severe complications if they aren’t diagnosed and treated.  (See link for article)

SUMMARY:

  • An attached tick typically stays put for anywhere from 3 days to two weeks. The longer it is attached, the greater your risk for infection, so getting it off safely and promptly is important.
  • While the article recommends the CDC’s method of using tweezers for tick removal, I recommend a special tick removal device.  Go here for a review of products. Some can even be put on your key-chain which is handy in a pinch.
  • It’s important to NOT squeeze the tick or crush it as the fluids could transmit infection.
  • Some states offer free tick testing.  You can save the tick and have it tested for pathogens.  Wisconsin does not have such a service, which is really unfortunate, but tick testing is not without error.
  • Dermatologists recommend using a magnifying glass to make sure you haven’t left any body parts.  If the skin is firm, red, irritated, and has a lump, the tick may be embedded deeper.  You may need a dermagologist to surgically remove it with a punch biopsy tool.
  • The dermatologist states that “most tick bite end up being harmless.”  Where he derives this is beyond me.  Take each and every tick bite as seriously as a heart attack.  This crud can derail your life.
  • He also states you don’t need to call your doctor right away.  I COMPLETELY DISAGREE.  Call!  Immediately!  Get on prophylactic antibiotics/antimicrobials asap.  The risk of a life-debilitating illness just isn’t worth it.  Do NOT take the “wait and see approach.”
