Babesiosis Treatment: My Go To Clinical Tips

Babesiosis treatment is often overlooked—especially in patients who also have Lyme disease. Babesiosis is a malaria-like illness caused by microscopic parasites that infect red blood cells. It’s frequently found alongside Lyme, but just as often, it’s missed.

Unlike Lyme, which is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, babesiosis is caused by parasites (Babesia microti or Babesia duncani) and does not respond to doxycycline. Yet I continue to see Lyme patients who are only treated with doxycycline—even when symptoms strongly suggest babesiosis may be present.

So what do I use when babesiosis testing is negative but suspicion is high?

Let’s walk through my approach.

Why Testing for Babesiosis Falls Short

Babesiosis tests often fail—especially in patients with chronic or relapsing symptoms. Here’s why:

    1. Parasites are visible on blood smear only in early infection

    2. PCR (detects DNA) may miss low-level infections

    3. Antibody tests may remain negative for months—or fade over time

In my practice, I increasingly see positive Babesia antibodies after months of symptoms, even when earlier testing was negative. This tells me two things:

    1. Symptoms often precede test positivity.
    2. Waiting for test confirmation may delay needed treatment.

Babesiosis Treatment: Key Symptoms That Warrant Empiric Therapy

When testing fails but the clinical picture fits, I move forward with treatment.

Common babesiosis symptoms in my patients include:

    1. Night sweats (often drenching)

    2. Shortness of breath or “air hunger”

    3. Fatigue that worsens with activity

    4. Lightheadedness, POTS-like symptoms

    5. Temperature dysregulation

    6. Anxiety or depression out of proportion

These symptoms are sometimes dismissed as menopause, anxiety, or long COVID—but in a patient with a history of Lyme disease or tick exposure, they raise concern for babesiosis.

First-Line Babesiosis Treatment

When babesiosis is suspected, the first-line treatment I use is: Atovaquone + Azithromycin

This combination remains the most commonly prescribed regimen, with proven effectiveness.

    1. Atovaquone is an anti-parasitic that targets the Babesia organism in red blood cells.

    2. Azithromycin is an antibiotic that complements atovaquone’s activity.

Practical Note:

Many clinicians prescribe Mepron® (atovaquone 750 mg/5 mL oral suspension), but I’ve had success using Malarone® (atovaquone 250 mg + proguanil 100 mg tablets), which:

    1. Is better tolerated by many patients

    2. Is easier to obtain in outpatient practice

    3. Comes in pediatric-sized tablets (62.5 mg/25 mg) useful for dose titration

This flexibility allows me to individualize babesiosis treatment—especially for sensitive patients who cannot tolerate full adult dosing at first.

Newer Option: Tafenoquine

For resistant or relapsing babesiosis, I’ve also begun using: Tafenoquine (Krintafel®)

    1. Originally approved for malaria

    2. May be effective in difficult Babesia cases

    3. Requires screening for G6PD deficiency before use

    4. Still considered off-label in many outpatient Lyme protocols

Tafenoquine is not a first-line therapy, but it may have a role when patients relapse despite standard babesiosis treatment. I’m following the research closely.

Why I Don’t Use Clindamycin or Quinine

While clindamycin and quinine are sometimes recommended for severe babesiosis (especially hospitalized cases), I have not been using them in outpatient care. In my experience:

    1. Clindamycin + quinine causes significant nausea, tinnitus, and other side effects

    2. Not well tolerated in chronic or relapsing Lyme patients

    3. Alternative regimens (like atovaquone-based therapies) are typically sufficient

If a patient does not respond to first-line babesiosis treatment, I evaluate for possible co-infections (like Bartonella or Ehrlichia), medication tolerance, and drug absorption before moving to more aggressive regimens.

What I Watch for During Treatment

When treating babesiosis, I monitor:

    1. Liver enzymes (especially with Mepron)

    2. Hemoglobin and hematocrit (to assess for hemolysis)

    3. Symptom patterns (including Herxheimer reactions)

    4. Drug tolerance and adherence

Improvement can take time. But when patients begin to regain energy, lose their night sweats, and tolerate light exertion again, it’s a sign that treatment for babesiosis is working.

Final Thoughts on Babesiosis Treatment

Babesiosis doesn’t always show up on a lab test—but it can still cause profound illness, especially in those with Lyme disease or immune dysfunction.

If you’ve been treated for Lyme disease but still suffer from:

    1. Fatigue

    2. Night sweats

    3. Breathlessness

    4. POTS-like symptoms

… don’t assume it’s “just Lyme.” Babesiosis treatment may be the missing piece.

While Lee states Doricko’s actions had nothing to do with the Texas flooding, he’s but one man.  There are others with a differing opinion.  And regardless of the flood, spraying our air with toxins is unwise on so many levels from plant, sea, air, and animals to human life.

The one thing we can agree on is that Doricko is being used as a scapegoat to deflect from others (mainly the U.S. military and other agencies) who are doing even worse nefarious things in the name of ‘climate change’ that are harming the entire planet.  Playing God with the weather and the climate is simply not going to end well, as we have seen, and will only make things worse.

Similarly to ‘vaccines,’ cloud seeding science is not settled. 
It’s all a big fat experiment the public typically pays for one way or another.

“But we know that there’s been a tremendous spike in the cancer incidents of Australia since the vaccine program, the COVID vaccine was rolled out. And I know that from when I was over and talked to everybody. And we also know that they were being punished for even suggesting that there was a link. I mean, it is beyond belief that people were saying, look, I’m seeing an awful lot more young cancers here and they’ve all been vaccinated. We should do something about it. And the attitude was, be quiet if you want to keep your job or we’ll send you off to an asylum or something. Losing it, it was absolutely awful.

“So that data is there and they’re not getting it. So let’s just look at the people, brave enough to do it. Japan. The Japanese Office of National Statistics have released all this data and it’s absolutely clear that the more boosters you have, the greater the increase in the cancer incidents.

“What is interesting from my point of view is, from Japan is that whereas I thought I was seeing mainly, and this may well be selective because of my practice and the people I talk to is those cancers which are controlled by the immune response, the ones we know we use immunotherapy for, et cetera. In Japan, it was all, all cancers across the board. So they were all increasing with the vaccine and some particular ones like pancreatic cancer and gliomas.

“I mean all, all the sort of rarer sort of jumping up across the board. And of course, what happens to these people who publish all this correct data? That there is a team which is funded by Pfizer and the NIH, according to sources which are on the various substacks, etc, who go around and harass editors to withdraw anything that looks like it’s data to incriminate the vaccine for some link or another.

“We know that they are so vigorous about that that in the first Japanese data published in Cureus, the editor wouldn’t withdraw it. The authors found absolutely no reason to. The reviewers found no reason to. So what happened? Cureus was bought out by Nature Springer and the paper removed. I mean that would have cost them millions. This is the level, and you only go to this level to cover up evidence if you’ve committed a very serious crime. So I think that the fact they’re still doing it, is basically mea culpa and we should hold them to account on this.”

Dr. Kirk Moore is a hero of the COVID wars. He administered saline shots instead of COVID vaccines to his patients and issued vaccine cards to them, allowing them to continue with their work or school. In doing so, Dr. Moore preserved the health of his patients and fulfilled his Hippocratic Oath to do no harm. He was subsequently charged by the Biden administration in 2023 with violating laws that resulted in “sabotaging” the rollout of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. Appeals to the new Trump administration to pardon the doctor or dismiss the case were ignored, and the trial moved forward.

Jury selection was done, and the discovery phase had begun. The trial had gone on for one week. Officials were being interrogated on the witness stand. Colleagues, patients, friends, and patriots filled the courtroom, and a growing awarenessof this ongoing travesty of justice was evident through social media.

Then, in the eleventh hour, the charges were suddenly dropped. US Attorney General Pam Bondi said,

“Dr. Moore gave his patients a choice when the federal government refused to do so. He did not deserve the years in prison he was facing. It ends today.”

She undoubtedly acted with the approval, if not the insistence, of President Trump. And it really was over, because there was a provision that the government could not bring it again.

At first, it seemed like a miracle. Everyone we know was delighted for Dr. Moore and his loved ones, and so were we.

However, a compromise agreement was forced on Dr. Moore as part of the government’s decision to drop the case: Dr. Moore would NOT be allowed to sue the government for costs.

In addition to the caveat, the whole thing began to look suspicious. There was no ripple effect. Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s Health and Human Services was still endorsing the vaccine for large populations of patients. Anyone over 65 years of age was supposed to receive it, as was anyone else who had pre-existing conditions, including pregnant and nursing mothers, and babies 6 months of age and older.

This meant that there were literally hundreds of thousands of patients who ran the risk of being murdered or disabled by lifelong conditions due to the ongoing distribution of the vaccines. A significant number of patients, especially among the elderly, the ill, and pregnant women and their children, would die before their natural time, from heart disease, from a damaged immune system, from miscarriage or stillbirth, to hundreds of other identified adverse effects of the jab.  (See link for article & Interview )

SUMMARY:

  • According to Sasha Latypova, retired Pharmaceutical consultant turned reformer, the judge initially ruled against Dr. Moore from presenting information about the deadliness of the shots.  
  • However, due to the government bringing up one of the censored issues, the judge lifted the ban allowed for the damning information.  
  • Moore’s team was about to open ‘Pandora’s Box,’ on the whole murderous scam so the government had to shut it down.  They chose to lose a minor battle (for them) but win the war by keeping the deadliness of the mRNA gene therapy shots under a veil of secrecy since there are hundreds if not thousands of lucrative but just as deadlyy mRNA products in the pipeline. 

Sadly, our government has become nothing more than pieces on a chess-board.  Pieces that can be bought and sold by the highest bidder.  The conflicts of interest are so deep and wide that truth and transparency will never and can never happen.  

Politicians are like diapers.  They need to be changed often.

Take Action TODAYThe U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, July 22 to vote on the Appropriations Bill which contains extremely troubling provisions quietly added into the proposed legislation. These provisions are designed to shield the chemical industry from liability from harms to farmers and consumers while restricting the Environmental Protection Administration’s (EPA) ability to protect citizens from harmful exposures.

Section 453 was added to the bill to block the government from taking action on health concerns if they differ in any way from the EPA’s most recent health assessments, however outdated and inadequate they may be. The EPA and other agencies would be required to perform new assessments that could take four to 12 years even if new science shows harm and even if the original assessment was found to be based on fraud. If passed, Section 453 will strip farmers and consumers from their ability to seek damages against chemical manufacturers from injury and death when these companies fail to disclose potential harms occurring from exposure to their products.

Section 507 drastically reduces the EPA’s ability to protect consumers from PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), the manmade “forever chemicals” that have profound negative implications upon human health including cancer, hormone disruption, liver and thyroid problems, reproductive harm, and abnormal fetal development.

American citizens need more transparency and accountability – not less – as passage of the Appropriations Bill in its current state will ensure. Email your representative TODAY using the form in the above link. You can also call the committee members’ office to tell them to remove Sections 453 and 507 from the Bill.
