Malaria and Lyme disease – the largest vector-borne US epidemics in the last 100 years: success and failure of public health

Ilia Rochlin, Dominick V. Ninivaggi & Jorge L. Benach

Abstract

Malaria and Lyme disease were the largest vector-borne epidemics in recent US history. Malaria, a mosquito-borne disease with intense transmission, had higher morbidity and mortality, whereas Lyme and other tick-borne diseases are more persistent in the environment. The responses to these two epidemics were markedly different. The anti-malaria campaign involved large-scale public works eradicating the disease within two decades. In contrast, Lyme disease control and prevention focused on the individual, advocating personal protection and backyard control, with the disease incidence steeply increasing since 1980s.

Control of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases will require a paradigm shift emphasizing measures to reduce tick and host (deer) populations and a substantial R&D effort.

These steps will require changing the political climate, perceptions and opinions to generate support among governmental levels and the general public. Such support is essential for providing a real solution to one of the most intractable contemporary public health problems.

Rickettsioses in Children – A Review.

Abstract

Rickettsial diseases, caused by a variety of obligate intracellular, Gram-negative bacteria from the genera Rickettsia, Orientia, Ehrlichia, Neorickettsia, Neoehrlichia, and Anaplasma are considered some of the most covert emerging and re-emerging diseases. Scrub typhus, murine flea-borne typhus and Indian tick typhus are commonly being reported and during the last decade. Scrub typhus (ST) has emerged as a serious public health problem in India. Rickettsial infections are generally incapacitating and difficult to diagnose; untreated cases have case fatality rates as high as 30-45% with multiple organ dysfunction, if the specific treatment is delayed. Early clinical suspicion, timely diagnosis followed by institution of specific antimicrobial therapy shortens the course of the disease, lowers the risk of complications and reduces morbidity and mortality due to rickettsial diseases. Still there is large gap in our knowledge of Rickettsioses and the vast variability and non-specific presentation of these have often made it difficult to diagnose clinically. The present review describes the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic modalities and treatment of Scrub typhus which is a vastly underdiagnosed entity and clinicians should suspect and test for the disease more often.

Milford Molecular Diagnostics in Conn. Offers 100 Percent Accurate DNA Sequencing for Coronavirus Tests to Correct Growing Numbers of False Results From Questionable SARS-CoV-2 Test

MILFORD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sin Hang Lee, MD, an internationally recognized Connecticut pathologist, in a letter yesterday to World Health Organization and White House Coronavirus Task Force representatives, offered to re-test borderline or questionable positive coronavirus samples that are growing in numbers, as testing nationwide increases. (see Letter here: 03/22/20 – SARS-CoV-2 nested RT-qPCR sequencing typing).

Conn.’s Milford Molecular Diagnostics contacts WHO and Dr. Fauci advising of 100% accurate COVID-19 test, offers test and to re-test increasing inaccurate results.

“As coronavirus testing expands, reports of inaccurate test results are increasing exponentially,” said Milford Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory’s (http://www.dnalymetest.com/) director, Dr. Lee.

The letter was sent to the WHO’s response team’s Dr. Margaret Harris and Dr. Eduardo Guerrero, and to the Trump administration’s Coronavirus Task Force’s Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

“To improve the accuracy of the SARS-CoV-2 RT-qPCR tests, we have offered to re-test borderline or questionable positive samples with a Ct value between 37 and 40 for other laboratories by performing nested RT-PCR/Sanger sequencing of a unique 398-base segment of the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N) gene.

“Our laboratory’s sequencing is one-hundred percent accurate, as demonstrated in the letter. It can also distinguish the Wuhan seafood market pneumonia strain, the two California strains, the Texas strain and the Massachusetts strain of the virus, if tracing of these mutants among patients and carriers is desired,” said Dr. Lee.

Interested laboratories with residual RNA extracts stored at -80°C are requested to send an email inquiry to Dr. Lee at shlee01@snet.net or speak with Kevin Moore at 203-788-8497 to make arrangements. The test material sample should be 10 microliter of residual RNA extract and shipped in dry ice, said Dr. Lee.

DOJ appeals to Congress for new emergency powers amid pandemic

This is what we should be concerned about.  This legislation would allow individuals to be held permanently without trial during emergencies.
It would also waive the statute of limitations for criminal investigations as well as civil trials during an emergency and could last up to “one year following the end of the national emergency.”
We’ve been warned by a doctor who is also a politician about this abuse of power:  https://madisonarealymesupportgroup.com/2020/03/22/dr-ron-pauls-warning-of-coronavirus-hoax/
And here we see more states are being given “Stay at home” orders and national guard activation:

This chart shows where COVID-19 fits in with other diseases.  Please note that Lyme/MSIDS deaths didn’t even make the graph – yet people are dying from it but no one’s keeping score because authorities tell us we are making it all up. Hopefully you can see the clear bias.  https://madisonarealymesupportgroup.com/2019/02/16/lyme-is-all-in-your-head-a-wake-up-call-to-mental-health-professionals/
