Abstract

Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by chronic widespread pain and non-pain symptoms, such as fatigue, dysautonomia, and cognitive and sleep disturbances. Its pathogenesis and treatment continue to be the subject of debate. We highlight the role of three mechanisms—autoimmunity, neuroinflammation, and small fiber neuropathy—in the pathogenesis of the disease. These mechanisms are shown to be closely interlinked (also on a molecular level), and the review considers the implementation of this relationship in the search for therapeutic options. We also pay attention to chronic fatigue syndrome, which overlaps with fibromyalgia, and propose a concept of “autoimmune hypothalamopathy” for its pathogenesis. Finally, we analyze the molecular mechanisms underlying the neuroinflammatory background in the development of adverse events following HPV vaccination and suggesting neuroinflammation, which could exacerbate the development of symptoms following HPV vaccination (though this is hotly debated), as a model for fibromyalgia pathogenesis. Flu Shot Nearly Kills Man

His story starts in the same place it almost ended, a hospital where doctors treated him for pneumonia in 2014. When I was being discharged, the nurse said, oh, hey, by the way, you need a flu shot. He says that flu shot nearly killed him, causing Guillain-Barré Syndrome. The pain was just massive. A disorder where his immune system attacked its own tissue, paralyzing him, forcing him to sit in a hospital bed for months, start rehab and then pay a pricey bill. Close to $1 million. All because he got a flu shot. There are side effects to vaccines that nobody knows about and I found out the hard way.

The nurse in this story didn’t want her identity known as she fears she will lose her job for speaking up about the lack of vaccine safety studies. Something is desperately wrong when health professionals no longer have free speech.

Cochrane’s 2018 review⁹ of 52 clinical studies on vaccines for preventing influenza in adults, including pregnant women, found only 15% of the studies were well-designed and conducted. Based on 25 studies that looked at inactivated influenza vaccines, Cochrane concluded they have only a minor protective effect against influenza and influenza-like illness (ILI), noting:

“Inactivated influenza vaccines probably reduce influenza in healthy adults from 2.3% without vaccination to 0.9% and they probably reduce ILI from 21.5% to 18.1% … 71 healthy adults need to be vaccinated to prevent one of them experiencing influenza, and 29 healthy adults need to be vaccinated to prevent one of them experiencing an ILI …

In its 2018 review¹⁰ of 41 clinical trials on live and inactivated vaccines for preventing influenza in children, they found:

“Compared with placebo or do nothing, live attenuated influenza vaccines probably reduce the risk of influenza infection in children aged 3 to 16 years from 18% to 4%, and they may reduce ILI by a smaller degree, from 17% to 12% …

This particularly frightening statement was given:

“Adverse event data were not well described in the available studies. Standardized approaches to the definition, ascertainment, and reporting of adverse events are needed.”
