Wisconsin Chronic Lyme Disease Petition

CHRONIC LYME DISEASE IS REAL

(This is a Wisconsin Petition and your name will only be counted if you give your first and last, zip-code and email. Thank you!)

Most Americans have heard of Lyme Disease. We are trying to raise awareness about Chronic Lyme Disease. Chronic Lyme Disease is Lyme Disease that is left untreated or under treated. Currently doctors are following the IDSA (Infectious Disease Society of America) protocol for Lyme treatment. This protocol states that 28 days of antibiotic treatment is all that is needed. We Chronic Lyme sufferers follow the ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) guidelines for treatment. Briefly these guidelines state:

• Since there is currently no definitive test for Lyme disease, laboratory results should not be used to exclude an individual from treatment.

• Lyme disease is a clinical diagnosis and tests should be used to support rather than supersede the physician’s judgment.

• The early use of antibiotics can prevent persistent, recurrent and refractory Lyme disease.

• The duration of therapy should be guided by clinical response, rather than by an arbitrary (i.e., 30 day) treatment course.

• The practice of stopping antibiotics to allow for delayed recovery is not recommended for persistent Lyme disease. In these cases, it is reasonable to continue treatment for several months after clinical and laboratory abnormalities have begun to resolve and symptoms have disappeared.

We are asking you to help us get this disease recognized in Wisconsin. Right now Rhode Island is the only state that not only protects doctors who treat this disease, but also guarantees that insurance companies can’t deny a patient coverage for this treatment.

Please sign this petition. We are planning to present it to our state representatives and senators in hope that we will become the second state in our nation to legally recognize Chronic Lyme as a real problem that is affecting hundreds of Wisconsin residents.

Thank you for your help.
